Gallery walls are timeless and likely here stay, While there are no set rules, my personal preference for contemporary architecture is large scale art in the living room and gallery walls in other areas.

A well curated gallery wall can make going down the hall or up the staircase more interesting.

Wherever you decide to place your gallery wall I have a few tips that may help you achieve a look you love.

1. When choosing artwork/frames be thoughtful to complement the overall style and aesthetic of the space.

2. The visual center of the gallery wall arrangement should be about 57 or 60” inches from the floor.

3. Keep equal distance gaps between pieces consistent 2” - 4 ” to ensure visual balance.

4. Mix paintings, posters, photography and artifacts in a colour palette that compliments your existing decor.

5. Go for the Interior Designers rule of 3’s, means stick to odd number of pieces.

6. Try the same frame profile or coordinating frames for a cohesive refined look.

7. If you have an eclectic interior mix vintage, salvaged and rustic frames to tell your story.

8. Use a variety of sizes to draw the eye across the arrangement.

9. For small spaces opt for a uniform grid layout - 3 rows of 3 is ideal.
